Connect your coding agent to production

The Inspector MCP server lets any MCP client read your application's errors and performance data, so your agent can find the cause and fix your code.

Works in the terminal with an API key and on the web with OAuth.

Connect in the terminal

Create an API key in your Inspector dashboard, then add the server to your agent. Any other MCP client needs the same two things: the server URL and your API key.

Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http inspector https://app.inspector.dev/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
VS Code
{
    "mcp": {
        "servers": {
            "inspector": {
                "type": "http",
                "url": "https://app.inspector.dev/mcp",
                "headers": {
                    "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
                }
            }
        }
    }
}
Cursor

  "mcpServers": {
    "inspector": {
      "url": "https://app.inspector.dev/mcp",

      }
    }
  }
}

Connect on the web

Web agents use OAuth, so there is no key to paste. This example uses Claude. ChatGPT and other web agents follow the same pattern under different menu names.

  1. 1

    Add a custom connector

    In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and add a custom connector named Inspector with the URL https://app.inspector.dev/mcp.

  2. 2

    Approve the connection

    Sign in to Inspector, check what the connector can access and approve the request.

  3. 3

    Ask about production

    Back in Claude, try: Are there errors in the app production environment?

What your agent can do

The server exposes 8 tools. Your agent calls them when it needs production data.

list_apps
List the apps you have access to, with their platform and repository.
get_latest_production_errors
Get recent production errors, with their frequency and the code they affect.
get_error_analysis
Analyze one error, with the source file, its patterns and how often it occurs.
recent_transactions
See what the application is doing now, grouped by endpoint.
worst_performing_transactions
Get the ten slowest transactions in a time range.
transaction_details
Read a transaction’s timeline, with every query, cache command and external call.
get_installation_instructions
Get the steps and ingestion key to install Inspector in a project.
create_app
Create a new app to monitor a project. Organization admins only.

You stay in control of production

The authorization screen shows what an agent can access before you approve it.

What it can read

  • Your applications: names, platforms and connected repositories
  • Production errors: stack traces, source code and frequency
  • Performance data: requests, jobs and commands, with their timelines
  • Ingestion keys, when you ask to install Inspector in a project

What it can't do

  • It can’t change or delete your account, existing apps, alerts or settings
  • It can’t access billing, team members or API keys
  • It can’t see apps you haven’t been given access to
Chat on your phoneInspector connected

What broke in production this morning?

  • get_latest_production_errors shop-api
  • get_error_analysis Call to a member function format() on null

Invoice::dueDate() returns null for invoices created by the import job. A guard in InvoicePresenter fixes it. Should I open a pull request?

Yes, open it.
